Boardwalk Empire: Season 3 HBO

Boardwalk Empire: HBO:  Season 3

If you have not watched Boardwalk Empire's first 2 seasons...you are missing a great series.

I am a huge fan of Steve Buscemi who plays Enoch"Nucky" Thompson...a mob boss that you hate to love...and I have grown to enjoy watching his live in girlfriend Kelly Macdonald: who plays Margaret Schroeder.  She is smart and unpredictable.  It is a complicated show...you have to pay close attention to know all the characters...

Buscemi's character "Nucky" is based on the real mobster who ruled Atlantic City during the prohibition era.

If you want to catch season 3, I would watch season 1 and 2 first so you will understand the dynamics...better hurry...3 is about to start...

I give Boardwalk Empire 4 Red Hots!

Emily Owens, M.D.: New Series

Emily Owens, M.D. - This Fall The CW: Tuesdays 9/8c

I wanted to share this new series with you because I am a fan of Mamie Gummer who will play Emily Owens.  She is not new to entertainment scene, but  I watched her for the first time on a series on ABC called "Off the Map" I think it was a year or so ago...I liked the series but the series didn't last long.

Their was just something about her that I enjoyed...I wanted to watch her...then, I found out...she is the daughter of Meryl Streep.  Yes, she does look like her, but I dare to compare her to her mother.  I know I wouldn't want to be compared to my mom if I were following in her footsteps...it will be tough shoes to fill...but I think she just might slip right into those shoes...

I will be watching the first episode of Emily Owens, M.D. even though...I hate it is another medical drama...

Sparkle: Jordan Sparks

Sparkle:  In Theaters August 17th

American Idol's Jordan Sparks is in her first film and it will be out in Theaters August 17th.  Sparks plays an inspiring singer trying to break into Motown with her sisters...her mother is played by Whitney Houston...so I am sure the turnout to see this film will be huge as it will be Houston's last film.

I am guessing this film will have an amazing soundtrack!

Sparks was the youngest American Idol winner in the history of the show but it might be hard to make history in the film world as it will be hard to follow American Idol's Jennifer Hudson's success...she won an oscar for her first film...but lets see if Sparks can transition to the screen...

I am look forward to seeing the film and hearing the soundtrack.

Josh Henderson: Star Power

Josh Henderson:  John Ross Ewing:  Dallas 2012

I wrote about Dallas a few weeks ago and told you how much I liked it.  The series gets better and better each episode.  The acting and the talent pool is unmatched.

Someone I have not seen before but I know is about to make a huge splash in the Hollywood pool is Josh Henderson.  He is a natural and between his ability to draw you in and his good looks...he is going to be around for a long time...he won't be just a fly by night...I am predicting a "Tom Cruise" "Brad Pitt" of his generation...yes, he is that good.

So...if you haven't watched Dallas, by the way...Josh is from "D" Town Texas...the season finale is next week...but I would recommend watching the reruns of season one first...it is worth it...

I give Josh Henderson talent 4 Red Hots!

The Exes: TV Land Series

The Exes:  TV Land Series:  Wed. 10:30/9:30 central

I love to laugh so I am always looking for a light comedy that will make me smile.  I have found that with The Exes on TV Land.

I am a huge fan of Kristen Johnston who plays Holly Brooks.  She reminds me of Lucille Ball.  Her comedy is sometimes over the top but she makes you laugh.  You will remember her from "Third Rock from the Sun" and the movie "The Flintstones" when she played Wilma...The cast works well together I have always liked Donald Faison and Wayne Knight...Knight was my favorite person to hate on Seinfield and I am growing to like Kelly Stables and David Alan Basche.

All three guys are recently divorced.  Holly was their lawyer and now their landlord and neighbor.  The story lines pretty much revolve around them in their apartment and a bar they frequent...the single life...and the fun of dating after being divorced.

It is one that I DVR and watch when I have some free time...but it is worth the watch.

I hope TV Land keeps The Exes...sometimes you just need to laugh.

I give "The Exes" 2 Red Hots!

Nashville: New ABC Series:

Nashville:  New ABC Series:  Oct 10th, 2012

I was looking for up coming series and found that the critics like this one on ABC.  If you are a country music fan, I bet you will like it.

The description on the ABC page reads: "A legendary queen of country music struggles to maintain her place in the spotlight while dealing with an ambitious rising pop-country vixen who wants to knock her off the throne."

I am sure that Hayden Panettiere plays the vixen and I bet that Connie Britton plays the legend.  Not sure I will like it but I am glad to see that ABC is trying something new.  Lets face it...it could be a lawyer or hospital series...

Check out Nashville on ABC Oct. 10th.

Hope Springs: Premier August 8, 2012

Hope Springs:  Comedy

Hope Springs will be in theaters August 8, 2012.

I am always looking for a good comedy.  Everyone likes to laugh and looking at this cast, I bet it will be a good movie.  Now, I am sure it is for an older audience...those 40 plus...but with Steve Carrell, Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep...I will watch it just for the actors.

The movie is about a couple who have been married for years and they want to spice things up a bit...I can imagine with Steve Carrell...I am going to laugh...this movie reminds me a bit of the one "It's Complicated" with Meryl Streep...Steve Martin and Alex Baldwin...and I loved the movie "Date Night" with Carrell...both were romantic comedies for 40 plus and I loved it...laughed out loud watching "Date Night" several times.

So, I am suggesting this movie to everyone who has been married for a little while and wants a laugh...

The Following: New Fall Series on Fox

The Following:  New Fall Series on Fox:  Thriller

I have been looking for something that might be worth checking out in the fall and The Following looks promising.

The trend for Film Actors to cross over to TV is growing.  Kevin Bacon is the next to follow that trend.  His wife Kyra Sedgwick has had some success with TV...with one of my favorite series "The Closer"...but I haven't written about it because the detective drama is about to end...

In The Following: Bacon is a FBI profiler and followers serial killers...sounds a bit dark...but I bet the acting will be good...it is more of the same...and I do wish the networks would get creative...but I will check it out...

Here is the trailer for the up and coming series  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8H4ewQzKFM

I will keep you posted on its release.

"The Following" will be a new Fox Series.

This Means War: Review

This Means War:  Comedy: Action:  Romance

This Means War is the ultimate Romance movie for women...two good looking guys fighting over the love of one woman...Reese Witherspoon.

Chris Pine and Tom Hardy are Spies...so you can imagine it is action packed.  Sometimes predictable but quirky and fun...

I am a huge Reese Witherspoon fan.  I think it is because I am from the South and love that she represents the South so well.  She is a wonderful actor and I can't think of anything I have seen her in that I didn't like...

I enjoyed This Means War and even though it has a lot of action...things blowing up...fight scenes...it is still a chic flick...so women...get some popcorn and invite your girlfriends over...you will enjoy This Means War.

I give "This Means War"...2 1/2 Red Hots!

The Grey: Review

The Grey:  Action: Adventure: Drama

The Grey was named perfectly as it set me in a somewhat hopeless mood the entire movie.

Liam Neeson is the star and I love his work.  In fact, the acting is what kept me watching until the very end.  The cast did a wonderful job with a script that took you into a black hole and never got you out of it.

At times, I felt like I was watching a bad horror movie...you know the kind, when the girl leaves the room full of people and you are screaming at the screen don't leave...because you know she is next...

If you are a Liam Neeson fan, you want to watch this movie.   He plays his normal take control character and he gives this character 100% of himself.  Joe Anderson did a great job.  I don't recognize him from anything else I have seen, but I am betting I will see him again real soon.

The movie was predictable and I hate bad movie endings...and this one...well it left me feeling grey.

I give "The Grey" 2 Red Hots!

21 Jump Street: Review

21 Jump Street:  Movie Review

21 Jump Street might of been popular in the days of Johnny Depp, but even a cameo appearance from Mr. Depp, didn't help this movie at all.

The movie is a comedy, but the humor was dull and I didn't laugh at all.  To me it was stupid, not funny.

The characters Schmidt and Jenko played by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill: are cops.  Channing is nice to look at, but that is about all he had going for him in the movie.

Hill...you will remember from the movie "Superbad"...he plays the same type of character he always does, not much of a stretch for him and if he doesn't do something different soon, he will be type cast for the rest of his life.  It does works for Adam Sandler though...maybe I am just over 40 and don't get it...maybe I am just dated...but I did love "Superbad"...

Hill was also the producer and says "21 Jump Street 2" the sequel will start shooting in 2013...That is one sequel I will miss.

I have read reviews and everyone else seems to like it...is it just me?

I give "21 Jump Street" 1 Red Hot!

Anger Management: FX Series

Anger Management:  FX Series

Charlie Sheen is back.  After all the attention of him being fired from"Two and a Half Men" the title of his new show seems very  appropriate.

While I wasn't impressed with the first episode, it was a bit slow and not really funny...I decided to keep watching.  I don't know why but I think I just wanted to see what he might do next.  I am still watching and it seems to get better each episode.  I don't know, maybe I just like Charlie's dry sense of timing and humor.

It almost seems like he is working out some of his own issues on the show, as he plays a psychologist  named Charlie Goodson...who helps people with...anger problems.

I am going to give it a chance...as I do love a couple of his co-stars:  Selma Blair and Shawnee Smith.

I don't watch "Two and a Half Men" anymore...maybe Charlie did make the show...

Anger Management is on FX Thursday nights at 9:30.

I give Anger Management 2 Red Hots!

Scandal: ABC Series

Scandal:  ABC Series

I watched the first season of Scandal and I was hooked from the first episode...and so was the network, as it is one of the few new series that survived and will be back for a second season.

If you are into politics, you will love Scandal.   The star,  Kerry Washington who's character is Olivia Pope is fascinating.  She was the communications director for the President of the United States, but has left to start her own crisis management company...and the show has twists and turns that make the series worth following.

I will keep you posted for season 2...I give Scandal 3 red hots!

Buck: Documentary

Buck:  Documentary

Buck is a Documentary about the life of Buck Brannaman and his love for horses and family.

If you wanted to know more about the man played by Robert Redford in the movie "Horse Whisperer"...then watch Buck.  Buck is the real person behind the character Redford so wonderfully portrayed.

The documentary has been out for a while, but I didn't see it until this year.  It has won all kinds of awards and is both fun and interesting to watch.

If you love horses, this is a must see documentary.   This is one I have watched over and over again...but then again...I love horses!

I give Buck 4 1/2 Red Hots!!

The Newsroom: HBO Series

The Newsroom:  HBO Series

The new HBO series The Newsroom is very true to life for a working newsroom.  I have always been a fan of Jeff Daniels and he is the perfect news anchor.  There are several great actors in this series and they make the show.

I like this series...but...over and over again, there are series about newsrooms, law firms and hospitals...just wish there was a new twist to this one...but there isn't...just life in the news business...

The Newsroom does have a great cast and if you enjoy current events and always watch the news...you will enjoy it.

The Newsroom is on HBO: Sundays at 10/9 central.

I give The Newsroom 2 Red Hots!

Contagion: Review

Contagion:  Is a Medical Thriller disaster film based in present time.

This movie has so many A list actors that it is hard for me to say I wasn't thrilled with it, but I wasn't...

Cast Included:  Jude Law:  Matt Damon:  Gwyneth Paltrow:  Kate Winslet and Laurence Fishburne...

I get where they were going, and by the end of the movie it did make me want to buy some storage bins and get rice and canned goods just in case.  But it didn't leave me wanting more, it left me glad it was over...

If you are prone to freak out about germs and getting sick...you don't want to see this movie...I just think...with everything going on in the world today...the last thing we want...is for 2 hrs to think there is something else that could go wrong in the world...

I give it 1 1/2 Red Hots!

Game of Thrones: HBO Series

HBO's Game of Thrones is an Medieval Fantasy Series and the best series on television today.

Game of Thrones just ran it's second season...I can't wait for season 3!

The series is set in Medieval times with lots of conflict as five different societies are fighting for the Throne.  There are so many wonderful characters it is hard for me to pick who I enjoy watching the most...I have several favorite actors:  But...

My very favorite...is Peter Dinklage.  He plays Tyrion Lannister which is the brother of the Queen...and the son of a very powerful man.  I love his character and what he brings to it.  He is a remarkable actor!

I also enjoy Maisie Williams, she is Arya Stark: Her brother is after the Throne after the Lannister's killed her father and Emilia Clarke:  she is Daenerys Targaryen:  the Mother of Dragons:   She is a bit mystical and very beautiful...you can't help but love to watch her...I have never seen either of them in anything before, but I can tell you they a stars in the making.

There are so many great stories within the story that you do have to pay attention to keep up, but once you understand the dynamics...you hate it when the hour is up!

Game of Thrones is on HBO...the second season just aired...I will keep you posted for the third...but in the meantime...watch season 1 and season 2...you will love it!

I give Game of Thrones:  5 Red Hots!!

LOCKOUT: Review

Lockout:  Sci-Fi Thriller

I don't know why but in the last week I have watched several Sci-Fi Thriller Movies and they are not usually my favorites, but every time I watch one, they are new and refreshing...So they could become one of my new favorite genres...

Actors: Guy Pearce & Maggie Grace are the lead characters in this Thriller and while I can't remember what I have seen them both in before, I will remember them from Lockout.

The overall theme is a bit used, but their was uniqueness in this film.

If you like or don't like Sci-Fi Thrillers...you want to watch Lockout...

Warning:  Some scenes I had to close my eyes...a bit freaky...that is a pun for those who have seen the movie...

I give Lockout:  2 1/2 Red Hots!

Hot In Cleveland: TV Land Series

Hot In Cleveland:  This TV Land Original is a must see for any woman over 40!  I love this comedy series.  It is an all star cast with amazing characters including:  Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli:  Jane Leeves and Wendi Malick.  It isn't easy being single in your 40's and they make it look fun.  Betty White is the center of the series for me...she brings it all together...

While, I don't usually catch it when it airs...I have my DVR set to record each new episode.  It takes a lot for me to laugh out loud...and I usually do at least once every show.

Hot In Cleveland airs on TV Land:  Wednesday Nights 10/9 c.

I give Hot in Cleveland 3 Red Hots!!!

Suits: USA Series

Suits:  Mike Ross played by:  Patrick J. Adams and Harvey Specter played by: Gabriel Macht make the show.   Suits is another law firm show...yes, one more law show to add to the list, but this one has just a small twist, Mike doesn't have a law degree but has a photographic memory.  The two play off of each other like they have been working together for years.  Great acting and wonderful characters.

I also love Jessica Pearson:  Gina Torres, she is the boss...the relationships within the office are like a puzzle to figure out and I am enjoying putting the pieces together.

Suits has been on for a little while, but you can catch the new season on USA on Thursdays at 10/9c.

I give Suits:  2 Red Hots!!

Political Animals: USA Series

Political Animals:  Is a new series on USA Network and is a good fix for a Political Junkie.

Sigourney Weaver plays Elaine Hammond, who is the wife, well x-wife of a US President and now Secretary of State...also, she ran for President and didn't win...sound like a familiar story?  This show seems to mirror the life of the Clinton's...

I watched the debut show this week and I am going to watch it again next week...worth a second look.  If you like Politics...you will like Political Animals.

Warning:  some scenes are pretty explicit...not for young viewers...

Political Animals airs on USA on Sundays 10/9 central.

I give Political Animals:  3 Red Hots!

Dallas: TNT Series

Dallas:  JR Ewing is back and Larry Hagman is still the perfect Texas Oil Man.

I might be a bit bias as I was born and raised in Texas, but with that said, I didn't watch Dallas much the first time around.  I decided to check it out when the series aired a couple of weeks ago and now I am hooked.

Dallas is a soap opera with new great characters to love and hate.  Sometimes you just need drama in your life.

Dallas airs on TNT Wednesdays 9/8c

I give Dallas 2 1/2  Red Hots!

Perception: TNT Original Series

Perception:  Eric McCormack is Dr. Daniel Pierce, an eccentric neuroscience professor with paranoid schizophrenia who is recruited by the FBI to help solve complex cases. Sounds a bit far fetched and complicated...it is..but it works...

This is one of my new favorite shows to watch:  It is a cross between "House" and "CSI"...It is very different and I love the characters.  I think it will be a very interesting watch this year.  It airs on TNT Monday Nights at 10/9 central.  Check it out...

I give it 3 Red Hots!

In Time: Review

In Time: Is a Science Fiction Movie with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried.

What I enjoyed about this movie, is that it had a new idea, a plot that I had never seen before.  It was refreshing to watch something that has not been portrayed over 100 times.  I enjoyed the acting but Amanda Seyfried looked amazing the entire film.  She was fully made up and in a dress and heels...all the time even while running on roof tops.  Her make up was also perfect...even though she didn't have any make up...but then again...this is is science fiction.

If you haven't seen it, it is worth watching.

On my RED HOT scale:  I give it 2 1/2 red hots!
